This is the picture in the school yearbook that East Side High School New Jersey blacked out -- using black markers -- before handing the books out to the kids.It's hard to see in the photo, but the student, Andre Jackson, is locking lips with another guy. The yearbook contained pictures of straight couples kissing and these were not censored by school officials.
Jackson bought the space in the yearbook as a tribute to his boyfriend. School officials blacked it out as a tribute to their own fear and homophobia.
As another student remarked, "If you don't like it, don't look at it." Ah, there is wisdom at East Side High, after all.
