Well, I did it, biked in every day this week.
And I'm feeling it. My leg muscles feel weak and I definately slow down as the week progresses. It didn't help that I've been pedalling into 15-20 mph headwinds the last couple of days. Question: if I slow down earlier in the week will my "average" time improve? In other words, will it make my speed drop off less intense?

Answer: I believe so. It would just seem that you would have more reserved energy toward the "end" of the trip, IMHO.
Actually Scott, our muscles get stronger on the days we rest them, not on workout days. If it's possible, I would consider a "bike two days, rest one day, repeat the pattern" regimen, because using the same muscles (i.e. biking muscles) day after day will wear them down, not build them up. We're conditioned to believe "more is better", but working out smart works better than working out more.
